Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor are two Canadian citizens. They were released from Chinese custody and are returning to Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said.
Both are being held in China for espionage, released from prison, and flown out of the country, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Friday, hours after a senior executive at Chinese communications giant Huawei Technologies settled the charges with the Department of Communications United States Justice.

Two Canadians Michael Spavor & Michael Kovrig Arrested in China
Michael Kovrig is a former diplomat with the International Crisis Group, a Brussels-based think tank.
Mr. Spavor is a founding member of an organization that promotes international trade and cultural relations with North Korea.
The couple was arrested for espionage and, in August this year, a Chinese court sentenced Mr. Spavor to 11 years in prison for espionage. In the case of Mr. Kovrig, no decision has yet been made.
Critics have accused China of holding her in retaliation for arresting Ms. Meng to use her as a political bargaining chip. Beijing has always denied it.
In a statement, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the men had “more than two and a half years of arbitrary imprisonment.”
Early Friday morning, a Canadian judge ordered the release of Meng Wanzhou, Huawei’s chief financial officer, after she settled with US prosecutors on fraud charges against her.
“In the last three years my life has changed radically,” she told reporters in front of the Vancouver court.
“Every cloud has a ray of light,” he continued.
“I will never forget all the good wishes I have received from people all over the world.”

Canadian citizens Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig are returning to Canada nearly three years after their arrest in China, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Friday night.
“These two men went through an incredibly difficult experience,” Trudeau said in Ottawa.
“In the past 1,000 days, they have shown strength, endurance, endurance, and grace.”
Spavor and Kovrig boarded their flight around 7:30 p.m. ET, Trudeau said. They are accompanied by Dominic Barton, Canadian Ambassador to China.
The “two Michaels” were arrested in retaliation after Chinese technology manager Meng Wangzhou was arrested on 1st December 2018 in Vancouver at the behest of the US government.
