Approval From Ulema isn’t Mandatory For Approving Science Textbooks, Says Ministry of Federal Education

On Tuesday, the Minister of Federal Education proposed the declaration on the approval of science subject textbooks.

As per the details, he said it does not require the approval of the council of the Ulema. Previously, the Council of Ulemas issued a decree requiring that all human figures in One National Curriculum (SNC) biology textbooks be covered with clothing.

The Minister of Education in the latest interview with the media officials said that special interests have launched a campaign to discredit the government’s efforts to develop SNC for schools across the country.

However, the Single National Curriculum will only pass for grade V. Biology is a subject taught since grade IX and no biology textbook has yet been finalized.

The federal government approval process for science textbooks does not involve any consultation with the Muttahida Ulema Board. The Ministry of Education acknowledged that the Assembly of Punjab passed a law under which a Council of Ulemas approved all the Islamic content of the curriculum.
