Sindh Govt Allocates Rs22.8 bln For Colleges

The Sindh government on Tuesday proposed a provision of Rs 22.8 billion for the colleges, up 11.8 percent from Rs 20.446 billion last year.

This is what the Prime Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, said in his speech at the presentation of the budget for the coming fiscal year 2021/22 at the provincial assembly. He said 17 new universities are being built in Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Sanghar, Umerkot districts, and three Karachi division districts, Korangi, Malir, and West.

Rs.4 billion was allocated to 43 ongoing and 64 new Department of University Education programs in ADP 2021-22.

Improving women’s education will increase the province’s educated workforce and ensure societies’ prosperity, he said, adding that Rs 100 million has been proposed for Bakhtawar Cadet College for Girls Shaheed Benazirabad. The provincial government has also allocated Rs.292.55 million to seven cadet colleges, while five new public colleges have been approved for the next fiscal year.

He also announced that Rs 1 billion would be allocated to the Endowment Fund to help fund students.

An amount of Rs.120 million has been allocated to the Sindhi Adabi Board-Jamshoro, while Rs.100 million has been allocated for joint sporting activities and the purchase of laboratory equipment/supplies.
