Drivers can become distracted by various factors such as eating, drinking, smoking, or using their smartphones, which can lead to serious tragedies. In the United Arab Emirates, distracted driving accounted for 13% of fatal accidents in 2021 as more than 2,000 accidents occurred during that period.

On Twitter, the Abu Dhabi Integrated Transport Center (ITC) said that eating, drinking, or being distracted by anything else increases the risk of an accident by 80%.

Speaking of distracted driving, Dubai-based legal advisor Navandeep Matta said that distracted driving has multiple connotations in UAE traffic laws.

He pointed out that any activity that distracts the driver, such as B. texting, applying makeup, making videos, etc., can be used to punish the driver.

According to Navandeep, motorists can be fined up to AED 800 and 4 black points if they eat, drink, smoke, or put on makeup while driving. He advised motorists to keep both hands on the steering wheel while driving and at traffic lights.
