He underscored the United States’ commitment to supporting democracy in the region.

Addressing the ongoing election activities in Pakistan, Patel denounced instances of violence and raised concerns about limitations on freedom of expression. He specifically highlighted worries about the shutdown of internet and telephone services on polling day.

Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that the organization is closely monitoring developments in Pakistan. He called on politicians to maintain calmness throughout the vote counting process and expressed apprehension about disruptions to internet and phone services in the country.

Guterres emphasized the need for candidates to avoid actions that could escalate tensions and urged political leaders to resolve disputes through legal means, thereby promoting the advancement of democracy in Pakistan.
