King Charles And Camilla Celebrate 18 Years Of Marriage: Has The Monarch Broken Her Promise To Harry?

King Charles III and Queen Camilla were all smiles as they celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary on Sunday, the first after their new royal roles following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September.

The auspicious day of her life comes just under a month before her coronation, which will take place on May 6th at Westminster Abbey in London.

To mark the occasion, the couple accompanied the royal family on a trip to the church at their wedding site and also celebrated the new reign’s first Easter on a special day.

Charles and Camilla began developing feelings for each other in the 1970s, although they both had separate partners. The couple rekindled their romance a decade later and, after a long road to public acceptance, tied the knot on April 9, 2005.

Earlier this year, the King’s son Prince Harry revealed he once begged his father never to marry Camilla. The Duke of Sussex first opened up about his feelings towards his mother-in-law and father’s second marriage in his memoir, Spare, which was published in January.

Meghan Markle’s husband – who is making a new life in California with his wife and their two children, Archie and Lilibet – linked his and his brother Prince William’s feelings to grief at the loss of their mother, Princess Diana, who Camilla described as the third person from her marriage to Charles in the 1990s.

Charles made headlines when he described Camilla as a “dear friend” in his 1994 television interview with Jonathan Dimbleby, before admitting he had been unfaithful to Diana after their marriage “broke up irretrievably”.

After Diana’s tragic death in a car accident, Harry writes that his father arranged a meeting between his two sons and Camilla, with whom he is in a committed relationship.

“I have a vague memory of Camilla being just as calm (or bored) as I was. Neither of us cared much about the other’s opinion. She wasn’t my mother and I wasn’t her biggest obstacle,” Harry wrote.

At a subsequent meeting with Charles and William, Harry revealed that the princes had agreed to give their father their blessing to be with Camilla, but they asked him not to marry her.

“Willy and I promised Dad that we would welcome Camilla to the family. All we asked in return was that he wouldn’t marry her, and would make Mom compare Mom and Camilla across the country, across the world, and no one wanted that. Let alone, Camilla. We’ve got your back, we said. We have Camilla, we said don’t marry her. she… Just be together, Dad,” Harry wrote in his memoirs.

Despite these accusations, however, a wedding between Carlos and Camila took place after a carefully constructed public relations campaign to gain public support and eventually Queen Elizabeth II, who had to give him official permission.
