Intel Attacks Nvidia And AMD With Their First Graphics Cards

Intel is ready to take on its biggest competitors: Nvidia and AMD. The American chipmaker is preparing its Arc Alchemist range of high-end GPUs, which will take over Nvidia’s offerings such as the RTX 3070 Ti and 3060 Ti.

As per the new rumor from IT Home, Intel originally planned to launch its new GPUs in January 2022, but the plan has been postponed. GPUs are now expected to hit the market at the end of the first quarter and could even move into the second quarter, but it remains to be seen whether Intel plans to postpone this any further.

The report shows that the first batch of Xe-HPG DG2 GPU-based Arc Alchemist cards has already been shipped to Intel’s AIB partner for debugging. This means that a large number of available GPUs can be expected for reference models at launch.

In addition to the entry-level ARC A380 GPU, there will be two other models in the lineup that compete with the high-end offerings from Nvidia and AMD.

The top-end Alchemist 512 EU with 32 Xe cores will have at least three configurations. Here are the expected specs for each:

  • 512 EU (4096 ALU) / 16 GB @ up to 18 Gbit / s / 256 bit / 225 W (desktops) and 120-150 W (laptops)
  • 384 EU (3072 ALU) / 12 GB @ Up to 16 Gbit / s / 192 bit / 150-200 W (desktops) and 80-120 W (laptops)
  • 256 EU (2048 ALU) / 8 GB @ up to 16 Gbit / s / 128 bit / 60-80 W (laptops)

If everything goes as per the plan, we can expect Intel Arc Alchemist GPUs to be on the market by March / April 2022.
