WhatsApp Business Directory: New feature allows users to search for nearby shops and restaurants
WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow users to search for nearby businesses right from the app. Users will see a section with sub-categories like Photos, Movies, and Documents as they search for something in the application.
A second part shows nearby shops such as restaurants, supermarkets, and other services.
WABetaInfo first reported on the Business Directory feature when it was made available to select users in São Paulo, Brazil, and is expected to be available to additional users in other locations in the near future. Users will benefit from the feature as they can search for local businesses and then contact them directly through the app.
The function is most likely intended to facilitate shopping via WhatsApp, which already has its own UPI payment mechanism in countries like India.

Users can search for shops, restaurants, and other businesses nearby, communicate with their respective WhatsApp Business accounts, choose from a catalog of products and services, and pay directly from the application without leaving WhatsApp.
The feature is not yet available in Pakistan and there are currently no estimates of when it will be available. More information on planned additions, such as new features for corporate directories, is expected to be available in early 2022.
