New Twitter owner Elon Musk has suggested to former US President Donald Trump that he change the name of his app from “Truth Social” to ‘Trumpet’.
Donald Trump launched his app as “Truth Social” after Twitter suspended his account last year. He attacked Capitol Hill after violating Twitter’s policies regarding hate speech.
Tesla owner Elon Musk has also criticized Twitter for freedom of expression. A day earlier, however, Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion cash, wanting to make it a better place for free speech.
“Freedom of expression is the foundation of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital public space where issues critical to the future of humankind are discussed. I also want to improve Twitter by adding new features,” Musk said in a statement.
However, Musk’s suggestion to rebrand Trump’s app came after “Truth Social” topped the Apple Store charts.
Musk shared the graphic on Twitter, saying, “Truth Social is currently outperforming Twitter and TikTok on the Apple Store.”
Twitter’s new owner opined that Truth Social exists because of Twitter’s censorship of free speech.
“Truth Social (horrible name) exists because Twitter censored free speech,” Musk said.
However, after Elon Musk offered his opinion on former US President Donald Trump’s app, he suggested naming his Truth Social app Trumpet.
On Monday, Republicans cheered the news of Musk’s potential takeover of Twitter and bet that Trump would be reinstated on the service.
However, Trump, whose company is building a Twitter rival called Truth Social, has said he will not return to Twitter, according to a Fox News interview.
