500 Former Govt Officials With Sensitive Information Renounce Pakistani Citizenship

National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Chair Tariq Malik told the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that around 500 former officers with “sensitive” information gave up their citizenship after retiring.

The revelation was made on Wednesday during a PAC meeting chaired by National Assembly MP (MNA) Noor Alam Khan.

The PAC president said officers who currently hold dual nationality could be deployed to less influential positions. He asked the NADRA President about the criteria for appointing NADRA Director General (DG) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as it was a delicate position due to the KP’s border with Afghanistan. He then ordered Malik to remove the current NADRA KP DG from his post.

The President of NADRA announced that 43 people had already been fired from the institution for corruption and that he was personally investigating 2,600 staff cases.

Khan asked for the list of NADRA employees reinstated after being fired and the list of 380 Afghans whose fake Pakistani passports were seized after being deported from Dubai.

The meeting also discussed Afghan refugees who have National Identity Cards (CNICs) from Pakistan. The PAC Chair polled the NADRA Chair on the question, to which he replied that the refugees had received a Proof of Registration (POR) and if the Committee Chair knew anything about the sensitive issue of refugee NIC holders, he should do so directly discuss with NADRA.
