The United Arab Emirates will introduce a new generation of Emirati passports starting next month.

With innovation at the forefront, the new version of the passports, due to be launched on 1st September 2022, will include technical specifications to promote international travel security.

This change, launched as part of the National Identity Card project started in June 2021, aims to improve the UAE’s international competitiveness globally and reduce counterfeiting attempts through its detail-oriented ID page.

According to state-run news agency WAM, these changes are in line with smart leadership’s direction to solidify the transition to the smart government in the UAE.

Newer features include a fine security thread, highly complex spectral carving, printed photos with advanced security features, a holographic authenticity logo, a sophisticated 3D photo-engraved date of birth, and a watermark with the UAE emblem.

To reduce external damage, polycarbonate is used for special printing instead of paper due to its thickness and higher quality.

“The project aims to improve the flexibility in doing business of individuals in various institutions in the UAE in order to improve the quality of life and provide a travel experience that strengthens the UAE’s leadership position,” said the UAE President. federal agency. With the United Arab Emirates topping the world map according to the 2022 Henley Passport Index, making it the highest in the Arab world, these changes are another step in strengthening its position on the list.

All Emirates passport holders are also required to verify the validity of their documents for a period of at least six months before traveling with the option to issue passports abroad through the United Arab Emirates.

Passes from previous generation holders are still considered valid until the expiration date of their next renewal is approaching. The next generation passport can be applied for once the current passport is still valid for six months.

The Emirati Pass can be renewed via the UAEICP website or smart app.
