Dubai Will Train 10,000 Young People To Fight Climate Change And Get ‘Green Jobs’

Dubai Cares, an early childhood development support program, will launch the Green Jobs for Youth: Online Mentoring and Training Program in partnership with the Ban Ki-moon Center for Global Citizens (BKMC).

Through this initiative, Dubai Cares and BKMC will educate and empower young people to actively combat climate change and its impacts. It will allow young people to continue their careers in the climate sector and find creative solutions to achieve a green economy as quickly as possible.

According to the data, the initiative will directly benefit 10,000 young people (14-20 years old) enrolled in the course and indirectly more than 277,980 people, including parents of young people, business people, policymakers, and other citizens.

The initiative includes an online course, a mentoring program to connect young people with experts in the field, and a policy recommendations document that provides lawmakers with data to help them pass regulations that encourage the participation of young people encourage people in the workplace.

Referring to the program, former 8th United Nations (UN) Secretary-General and BKMC Co-Chair Ban Ki-moon said that during his tenure in 2015, the UN adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). and signed the Paris Climate Agreement. Agreement between 190 states.

Highlighting the impacts of climate change, he further noted that the world is suffering from terrible droughts, floods have destroyed the livelihoods of people around the world, and education has become inaccessible, expensive, and uninclusive.

Therefore, BKMC is collaborating with Dubai Cares to highlight the importance of education and examine the global and personal impacts of climate change, Ban Ki-moon said.

Dr. Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Vice President of Dubai Care called youth the “greatest asset” in tackling difficult climate change-related issues.
