His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai said on Sunday: “The idea of Dubai Metro was unfamiliar in the region… but we moved on with a bold decision and we delivered what we promised.”

Sheikh Mohammed said on Twitter: “Today, the number of passengers on the Dubai Metro has reached 2 billion since its inauguration on September 9, 2009, with punctuality of 99.7%.”

“The idea of the Dubai Metro is new in the region. Although opinions were divided, we made a bold decision and kept our promises.”

“Conclusion: In times of difficult decisions, the worst option is not to make a decision, because this is when the fate of countries and societies is decided.”

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council said Dubai’s ability to build a world-class transport network is the result of Sheikh Mohammed’s vision.

As part of Sheikh Mohammed’s efforts to build a city that will serve as a model for future cities, Dubai has invested in various infrastructure projects that meet the highest international standards and operational efficiency to ensure the best service delivery, he added.

Sheikh Hamdan commended the RTA for their efforts to implement quality projects that meet the mobility needs of the community.

“Dubai Metro has become the backbone of a public transportation system connecting several key districts in the emirate, ensuring safe and seamless mobility for passengers,” said Sheikh Hamdan.
