MQM-P’s Kamran Tessori is Sworn in As Governor Of Sindh Today

MQM-P’s Kamran Tessori is sworn in today as the 34th Governor of Sindh after President Arif Alvi approved his appointment under Article 101 (1) of the Constitution.

Sindh governorate remained vacant following the resignation of former governor Imran Ismail, who resigned after Imran Khan was removed from the post of prime minister in April.

Tessori recently returned to MQM-P. The move sparked controversy as many party members had expressed reservations.

On 9th September at a meeting chaired by party leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the MQM-P decided to reinstate Tessori in the party as deputy party leader.

However, he received strong backlash from several senior party leaders who did not attend the meeting. They openly expressed their concerns about the party’s decision.

Tessori was the main cause of the conflict between former MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar and other party leaders that eventually led to the elder’s expulsion from the party.

The MQM-P Coordinating Committee removed Sattar from the organizer’s position for insisting on giving Tessori the party ticket in a by-election.

Sattar later formed another party faction called the MQM Restoration Committee.

Why Was Kamran Tessori Named?

The main leader of the MQM-P, Nasreen Jalil, was originally considered for the position and was also offered a resume for her nomination for governor, but despite the nearly five-month deadline, the President has not approved her appointment.

In a statement released after the president’s approval, an MQM-P spokesman said Tessori would act as a bridge between Sindh and the center.

In this regard, the spokesman said that the governorship of Sindh has been vacant since the inauguration of the current government.

“MQM-P assigned five names in the first phase, but these names could not be extended. The names of Kamran Tessori and Abdul Waseem were then submitted for approval and the President gave his approval to Tessori’s nomination.”

According to the spokesman, Tessori will do his part to help alleviate the deprivations of Sindh’s citizens.
