Michael Hayes was charged on Friday in connection with the 8th October shooting in Stockton, Calif.
In addition to attempted murder, he was charged with assaulting a gun with increased hate crimes and carrying a loaded gun in public places.

What Was The Incident?
As per the police reports, prosecutors said Hayes was driving “erratically and too fast” in a parking lot when the victim, Bobby Gayle, 45, “told the driver to slow down.”
“The accused then stopped, got out of the vehicle, used racist nicknames, and shot the victim seven times,” the San Joaquin County District Attorney said in a statement Friday after the act of charge.
Bobby Gayle, who the family said had just finished building a restaurant when the shooting happened at around 11:30 p.m., was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
After Hayes’ arrest, Bobby Gayle said he didn’t hate the gunman from his hospital bed on Thursday.
“I can’t have hatred in my heart,” the father of five told the broadcaster, who struggled to speak due to his injuries.
“We come from a family, we love everyone, there is no hate here. One hundred percent, I am not,” he said.
Bobby Gayle said he was shot twice in the face, neck, shoulders, and legs. One of the bullets is stuck in his head and “it will stay there because it cannot be removed because it does more damage,” his brother Marlon Gayle told KXTV.
The family thanked me for the news of the arrest.
“By the grace of God they find this guy and stop him,” Marlon Gayle told KXTV. “We will let justice take its place.”
Michael Hayes Arrested
Stockton Police shared photos of the suspected gunman’s truck on Facebook on Wednesday, describing it as a late model of the Chevrolet Silverado while asking the public for advice. A reward of up to the US $10,000 has also been offered for clues leading to an arrest.
Police said Thursday they had arrested Hayes the day before. In a statement, Stockton Police Chief Eric Jones thanked “the anonymous informant and the hard work of our detectives in bringing this matter to a speedy resolution for the victim and her family.”

Prosecutors said Hayes had been taken into custody and was due in court on 28th October on a new charge. ABC News has contacted their lawyer.
“A person’s horrific actions are not a representation of who we are as a community. No one should be a victim of race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation,” District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar said in a statement on Friday.
“My office takes these crimes very seriously. Our goal is to work with our law enforcement partners to rid the community of hate and unnecessary gun violence.”
