Jordan McSweeney was found guilty of the “brutal s*x murder” of lawyer Zara Aleena after she violated the terms of her license for a previous offense, has been sentenced to life in prison.
He pleaded guilty to the murder and sexual assault of a law graduate in Ilford, east London.

Ms. Aleena was an aspiring solicitor and had just started a new post with the Royal Courts of Justice. Her family described her in a tribute after her death as a “carefree spirit with the most loving heart”.
“She ran everywhere,” the family said.
“She put her dress shoes in a bag and put on her slippers. Aleena, 35, who worked as a police officer, was followed, grabbed from behind, dragged off the road, and dragged down an alley before McSweeney kicked and trampled her.”

McSweeney, 29, pleaded guilty last month to murdering and sexually assaulting Aleena in Ilford, east London, in the early hours of June 26 this year as she was returning home.
On Wednesday he was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum sentence of 38 years by Ms Justice Cheema-Grubb at the Old Bailey.
She said: “The sentence for the brutal sexually motivated murder of Zara Aleena is life imprisonment. The accused will serve a minimum sentence of 38 years.”
“The defendant is a belligerent and deeply violent man with a propensity for violence,” he said.
McSweeney refused to appear at the hearing or sentencing, which the judge said proved he had “no backbone.” Defense attorney George Carter-Stephenson KC told the court McSweeney knew CCTV footage would be released during the sentencing hearing and he did not want to “relive” the incident.
After the sentencing, Aleena’s aunt Farah Naz said, “There are questions to be answered, lessons to be learned and changes to be made.”
