A man has died and a two-month-old girl is in critical condition following a shooting at her Alabama home on Sunday morning, as per the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said the shooting took place around 9:15 a.m. on the 4400 blocks of 20th Street NE.
When police arrived, the sheriff’s office said they found Willie Haywood Jr., 53, dead in the house with the 2-month-old boy who had been shot.
Lashana Henderson arrested For Killing Man & Infant Daughter
The sheriff’s office announced that the boy’s mother, Lashana Henderson, 25, had been arrested following the shooting.
The sheriff’s office said Henderson told authorities she was involved in a family dispute with Haywood while she was armed with a gun.
The sheriff’s office discovered that Henderson shot Haywood while he was holding the boy in his arms, and the two were hit by gunfire.
The 2-month-old baby was taken to the children’s hospital.
Arrest warrants were obtained and Henderson was charged with Haywood’s murder.
What Police Have Investigated Up Till Now?
The sheriff’s office said the rise in the number of capital murders resulted from Haywood’s death in the presence of a child whose parent or legal guardian was under the age of 14.
The sheriff’s office said Henderson was also charged with first-degree domestic violence (first-degree assault) for seriously injuring her son with a deadly weapon.
Henderson does not have bail for the capital murder charge and 60,000 USD bail for the original assault charge.
