Authorities say a suspect named Kenneth Lee Simpson hiding in Missouri was the subject of an hour-long standoff that was resolved Monday afternoon.
After two officers were shot dead at close range the night before, the standoff ended around 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

Just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday, police were called to a disturbance at Casey’s General Store at 115 MO-19 in Hermann, Missouri. Upon arriving at the scene, officers shot the suspect, police said.
On Monday morning, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Detective Sgt. Mason Griffith, one of the officers shot, had died in the hospital. Official Adam Sullentrup was released by the city of Hermann as the second official for the public.
The suspect, 35-year-old Kenneth Lee Simpson, is said to have locked himself in a house directly across from Casey’s General Store, authorities say.
Suspect Shot Two Officers And Killed One
Police officers verbally challenged the suspect throughout the night and early morning.
According to KMOV, a reporter at the scene observed soldiers walking toward the residence Monday morning while brandishing flashbang grenades and police K-9s.
At 10:50 a.m., a robot was deployed to break into the home.
According to court records, Simpson has an extensive criminal history dating back to 2004 and includes a number of open cases. He has been evaded arrest by police since April 2022.
According to the Associated Press, Hermann is a town of about 2,100 people located about 80 miles west of St. Louis. It serves as the county seat of Gasconade.

Regarding the event, a spokeswoman for Casey’s General Store made the following statement:
“Our deepest condolences go out to the officers involved, their families, and all members of the Hermann Police Department. Our team is grateful for the work these officers have done to keep our community safe. Team members in the store are unharmed and the store is currently closed. We are working with authorities to provide them with any information or assistance they need to investigate this incident.”
