John Duncan Early Life
The club is heartbroken to announce the death of former city manager John Duncan.
He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones.
After this afternoon’s away game at Morecambe, Kieran McKenna paid tribute to John, who ran the club from 1987 to 1990.
He said: “It’s sad to hear. John was an amazing man. I managed to meet him several times.”
“I met him when I was at Loughborough University. He had a great career and was a great person.”
“Of course, my thoughts are with his family.”

Paying tribute to former Spireites player and close friend Duncan, Dyche told the League Managers Association (LMA): “I worked with John at Chesterfield FC for a number of years in some of the best years in the club’s history.”
“He was an excellent manager who always worked to bring out the best in all his staff and players to build a team that could challenge and thrives.”
“He wasn’t just a manager to me, he became a friend and mentor as my career evolved from player to coach to manager. I have always valued his knowledge and help and have asked him for his advice and support on several occasions, whenever I needed him I felt I needed it.”
“His dry wit and sense of humor remained intact as long as he felt the time was right. My respect for him runs deep and I was lucky enough to tell him that recently.”
“My heart and thoughts go out to his family, especially his three brave daughters who have helped him so much over the past few months.”

“A defeat for football and a great loss for me personally, but neither I nor anyone who played with him or knew him will ever forget him.”

“When he played and managed in Scotland I remember him playing up front for Dundee and then of course becoming a standout striker for Tottenham.”
