CNBC’s foreign correspondent Gamble came to the attention of the Russian president last week when he organized an energy forum in Moscow amid the gas crisis in Europe; the 69-year-old called it ‘beautiful’ and ‘pretty’.
Putin was subsequently criticized for ‘sexism’ before Russian television host Vladimir Soloviev used his Rossiya 1 show to accuse Gamble of using his performance to ‘distract’ the Russian leader.
But Gamble, 39, scoffed at the ‘scandal’ and posted a photo of her cake on her Instagram along with the cover of the Russian newspaper ‘Kommersant,’ which featured a photo of her with Putin.
“I have the best friends”, she joked next to the cake photo with the caption “How beautiful!”. above.
The images released by Soloviev mainly focus on his legs, with another presenter, Dmitry Kiselyov, claiming that he was using his body language “at full speed”.
After viewing the images, body language expert Judy James noted that “all the old textbooks on flirting with body language cite pointing the foot in the direction of a person as a sign of attraction.”

Daily Beast columnist Julia Davis defended Gamble when Kiselyov’s allegations made headlines.
“The ridiculous attack by the state media on the appearance of an American journalist was just an excuse for what really upset the pro-Kremlin media: it wasn’t Hadley Gamble’s dress or legs, it was her questions,” Davis tweeted.

The columnist also alleged that the network’s reaction to Gamble’s outfit was hypocritical, citing another recent case in which US diplomat Victoria Nuland criticized wearing a pantsuit.
“What’s particularly funny is that Russians blame Victoria Nuland for offending Russia for not wearing a skirt or dress and Hadley Gamble for wearing one they didn’t like,” she wrote.
