Dubai Presents Bicycle Tunnel With A Capacity For 800 Bikes Per Hour

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened a bicycle tunnel with a capacity of 800 bicycles per hour in the Al Meydan district of Dubai.

The tunnel, which is over 160 meters long and 6.6 meters wide, is part of RTA’s decision to make Dubai a bike-friendly metropolis. To do this, it will create the necessary infrastructure and connect it to the most important areas of the city.

The tunnel also offers residents the opportunity to engage in healthy activities without fear of other vehicles while providing an uninterrupted route for their ride.

The tunnel also has day and night lights ensuring a clear view for cyclists, while the design depicts a scene of plateaus and hills at sunset.

With initiatives like this, RTA plans to build up to 819 km of bike lanes in Dubai by 2026.

Conditioned Path For Pedestrians And Cyclists

Dubai also plans to create a 93km climate-controlled route called The Loop for cyclists and pedestrians to encourage healthy movement and reduce the impact of climate change.

The Loop will connect more than 3 million people and provide easy access to all major destinations within a 20-minute walk.

The move is part of Dubai’s overall strategy to make cycling and walking the main means of transport for residents by 2040.
