The World’s First Artificial Intelligence University Is Going To Be Inaugurated In Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi will open the Mohamed Bin Zayed Artificial Intelligence University for students in September 2020.

The authority announced Wednesday the creation of the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), the world’s first research-based AI graduate university.

The officials said MBZUAI will allow doctoral students, companies, and governments to promote artificial intelligence.

The university is named in the honor of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the United Arab Emirates, who has long been determined to developing the human capital of the United Arab Emirates through knowledge and scientific thinking to the nation Leading into the future.

MBZUAI offers all eligible students a 100% full scholarship as well as benefits such as allowance for a month, health insurance, and accommodation. The university has been also working with top local and global companies to secure internships and help students find job and employment opportunities.

The classes of doctoral students will begin courses in September 2020 at the MBZUAI campus in Masdar City.

The university will launch a new science and research model in the field of AI that will give students and teachers with access to some of the world’s most advanced AI systems to unleash their potential for economic and social development.

Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates, who has been appointed Chairman of the MBZUAI Board of Trustees and leads the establishment of the university, stated:

He further said that “AI is already transforming the world, but we can achieve much more by allowing the boundless imagination of the human mind to fully explore it. The university will focus on AI discipline and shape and empower creative pioneers who can lead us into a new era of AI empowerment.

Experts from around the world have been selected for the University Board of Trustees. These include the interim president of MBZUAI, Professor Sir Michael Brady, professor of oncological imaging at Oxford University in the UK; Professor Anil K Jain, a respected university professor at Michigan State University, USA; Professor Andrew Chi-Chih Yao, Dean of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Science at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China; Dr. Kai-fu Lee, a technology manager and venture capitalist based in Beijing, China; Professor Daniela Rus, Director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Laboratory for Informatics and Artificial Intelligence (CSAIL), USA, and Peng Xiao, Group 42 CEO.

The trustees are assisted by an advisory council chaired by Omar Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence.

The announcement comes as AI is expected to have a transformation effect on the global economy. Experts estimate that AI could contribute nearly $16 trillion by 2030. Experts estimate that AI’s contribution to UAE GDP will rise to nearly 14 percent by 2030 – the largest share of GDP in the Middle East.

The university will offer Master’s programs (MSc) and Ph.D. programs in the key areas of AI – machine learning, image processing, and natural language processing – and at the same time include decision-makers and companies around the world so that AI is used as a force for responsible action positive transformation.
