The Micklegate bar was surrounded by a large crowd who had gathered behind the cordons ahead of the royal walk this morning.

Three eggs were thrown in her direction when the King and Queen consort was received in York.

After booing the couple, a man was heard shouting, “This country was made with the blood of slaves.”

King Charles was not hit directly by eggs, but an egg fell on the road next to him.

After the first egg was shot, police and members of the Royal Security Team rushed to the area. Video of the incident shows them attacking a man in the crowd.

Then the audience erupted in screams of “God save the king” and ‘shame’.

Others nearby hoisted Union Jack flags as the altercation progressed.

“Major incident here in York as a lone protester tries to throw an egg at the king and shouts that the country was founded on the blood of slavery,” Daily Mail editor Rebecca English said on Twitter.

“It’s tied to the ground.”

Two uniformed officers tied the suspect’s legs and handcuffed him before loading him into the back of a police van.

The king continued his tour of the neighborhood and appeared indifferent to the egg-throwing incident.

Eggs flew his way and he continued to shake hands with a bystander, pausing only to look at the broken shells on the floor.
