UAE Residents Enjoy An Extended Break For Eid Al Fitr 2023

UAE residents can expect a very long weekend as the Eid Al Fitr holiday approaches in just under three weeks. The occasion marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month when Muslims around the world fast from dawn to dusk.

This year, Ramadan began on March 23 and lasts 29 or 30 days according to the lunar calendar.

The precise start and end dates of the holy month are set by the lunar observing committees in the United Arab Emirates, although the use of astronomical estimates for date predictions is common.

While an official confirmation is always important, it offers an opportunity to plan short breaks in advance. Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Executive Chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society (EAS) and a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, accurately predicted the start of Ramadan on March 23 this year and also predicted that its duration would be 29 days.

According to Al Jarwan, Eid Al Fitr will likely fall on Friday, April 21st. The official holidays of the Islamic Hijri calendar are four days, from the 29th of Ramadan to the 3rd of Shawwal, 1444.

Therefore, the Gregorian calendar dates will be from April 21 (Ramadan 29) to April 24 (Shawwal 3), allowing residents to enjoy a long weekend. However, the exact dates have to be confirmed by the Moon Observation Committee.
