UAE Is Making A Major Change To The Duration Of Work Permit

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has extended the length of work permits from two to three years, according to the authorities. The decision follows the recommendations of the Committee of the Federal National Council (FNC).

The FNC’s Committee on Financial, Economic, and Industrial Affairs proposed this extension due to the costs involved in the application and issuance process.

The committee also recommended that work permit fees be waived when a worker changes jobs. The new regulation applies to employees who have spent at least one year in a company after their probationary period.

According to the media, the above condition can be waived with the consent of the employer.

United Arab Emirates Warning To Employers

In February, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE) reiterated that private companies cannot force their new employees to work without a residence visa.

He warned that employers could not force their employees to work if they only had a work permit. A company wishing to employ a foreigner with a work permit must first apply for a MoHRE quota and then provide the worker with a letter of offer.
