UAE Announced Criteria For Hiring Foreign Workers

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emirateization of the United Arab Emirates (MoHRE) has set seven conditions for companies and private sector employers to hire foreign workers.

These terms were shared in a video on the official MoHRE Instagram account:

  • Electronic permits must be available from the company.
  • The hired employee must be at least 18 years old.
  • Compliance with the conditions applicable in specialist professions is required.
  • The professional position of the employee must be consistent with the activity of the company.
  • The company must have a valid license.
  • The application for employment must be made by the legal representative of the company and a work permit must be obtained.
  • The employee must not have a work permit for the employment.

The Department offers 12 work permits for registered companies, tailored to the specific nature and type of employment. Here are the 12 work permits:

  • Work permit for hiring a foreign worker.
  • Work permits for the transfer of foreign workers between companies.
  • Work permits for residents cared for by a relative.
  • A temporary work permit to hire an employee for a specific project or period of time.
  • Single mission permit for hiring foreign workers for temporary assignments or specific projects.
  • Part-time permit for hiring part-time employees with short-time work.
  • Permission for minors to hire anyone between the ages of 15 and 18.
  • Student Training and Employment Permit for employing 15-year-old students already in UAE.
  • UAE/GCC National Permit for UAE or GCC National Employment.
  • Golden Visa holders are allowed to employ UAE Golden Visa workers.
  • National internship permit to train nationals of the United Arab Emirates.
  • Freelance permits for self-funded foreigners who perform services or tasks in the UAE without a specific employer or employment contract.
