PMC Provides MDCAT 2021 Fee Subsidy For Students

Students can take MDCAT 2021 entry test prior to their Inter exams, Says Shafqat Mehmood

The federal government has decided that students can take MDCAT 2021 entry test prior to their Inter or high school A-Level exams.

The decision was made during a joint high-level meeting held here on Thursday under the Co-Chair of the Federal Minister of Education and Training Shafqat Mahmood and the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant (SAPM) for Health, Dr. Faisal Sultan, took place.

The aim of the meeting was to ensure the admission of Cambridge Intermediate (Pre-Medical) and A2 students to public and private medical universities in Pakistan. The disruption was caused in the current academic year and exams due to Covid-19.

Various options were discussed at the meeting to save the academic year for pre-graduate A2 and FSc students and ensure their timely admission to public and private medical universities across the country.

The Pakistan Medical Council (PMC) informed the minister that under the PMC Undergraduate Education (Admissions, Curriculum, and Conduct) Regulations 2021.

All students wishing to apply for admission to medical colleges and dentists can take the MDCAT exam, even if they have not already passed their pre-medical FSc or A-level exams. The MDCAT 2021 entry test will take place from August 30th to September 30th.

All students taking their A-Level exam in October can take the MDCAT exam in September and apply to medical schools before their exam. Medical and dental school admissions must expire by January 15, 2022, according to PMC regulations.

At the meeting, it was agreed to accept students who will take their high school exams in October and expect results in January 2022.

All medical and dental colleges and universities are instructed not to complete admission of students who graduate from high school in October as an admission of these students will follow after high school diploma results are announced in January 2022.

To this end, the PMC will enable universities to complete admission in these special category seats by February 10, 2022. PMC’s vice president also urged the federal minister of education and SAPM in health to use only the results of elective courses for merit creation in public universities this year, as the FSc exams are only run for elective courses.

The PMC is already considering such a policy for private universities.

The Minister and SAPM reiterated that the incumbent government is absolutely focused on addressing educational emergencies due to Covid-19, saying that no stone is left untried to provide students with fair career opportunities.

It was also agreed that the Federal Ministry of Education would coordinate closely with the state governments to ensure the smooth implementation of this agreed policy.
