The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), the engineering universities, and the Federal Ministry of Education has decided to allow all students seeking admission to engineering to take the engineering colleges admission test (ECAT).
No admission criteria are set for participation in the entrance test, as the 1st year exams of the previous year were not taken.
For the confirmation of admission, however, the students must present FSc results.

Federal Minister for Vocational Education and Training Shafqat Mehmood chaired an advisory meeting of the Pakistani engineering council, the vice-chancellors of engineering universities, and high-ranking HEC officials to ensure the admission of students to engineering universities.
It was decided to allow all students aspiring to a college of engineering to take the ECAT and engineering entry tests exams. Cambridge A2 students can also take the entrance test. However, the final examination is a prerequisite for admission to the university.
Due to the delay in the academic year and exams, several options have been discussed to prevent students from wasting the year. It was unanimously decided that all students who have passed the intermediate examination or are about to take the ECAT examination/engineering entry tests.
Cambridge A2 students can also take these exams. The universities issue preliminary admission, which is subject to a final examination.
No student can be prevented from taking the engineering sciences entrance test. Shafqat Mahmood welcomed this decision, saying that this year is an exceptional year for students and educational institutions where we must make exceptional decisions.
It is commendable that the engineering council and the responsible authorities supported the students under the direction of the federal and state governments.
