Pakistan to acquire $3.1 bln in debt relief from G-20

The G-20, the main forum for the world’s major economies, has suspended Pakistan’s $3.1 bln in debt relief through the end of this year.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Chaudhary Fawad Hussain shared the positive news while speaking to the media in Islamabad. This is another positive development for the country’s economy.

The Federal Cabinet has decided to monitor the implementation of development projects as part of the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), the information minister announced.

He said a mechanism would be put in place to ensure the timely availability of funds for development projects.

He said a third-party evaluation of development projects would be carried out to ensure transparency.

He said the annual PSDP for the next fiscal year is Rs 900 billion and it will fund most of Sindh’s megaprojects. The cabinet also approved the National Digital Cable Policy, he announced.

Chaudhary Fawad Hussain said digitizing the cable will improve quality and ensure people have access to more television channels.

He said, “We will also give cable operators rights to purchase content, the state broadcaster reported.”
