Danushka Gunathilaka, a Sri Lankan cricketer, has been accused of raping an Australian woman he allegedly met through a dating app.

Gunathilaka reportedly met the 29-year-old online while Sri Lanka was attending the T20 World Cup in Australia. They met through a dating app. And according to police, the main thug went on a date with his new girlfriend at a Rose Bay apartment building last week and sexually assaulted her.

As Sri Lanka prepared to leave the country after losing to England in the quarter-finals of the competition, allegations against Gunathilaka prompted Australian police to swoop down on him. at 1 a.m.

On Sunday, police arrested the 31-year-old outside the team’s hotel on Sussex Street in Sydney.

NSW Police later brought charges of four counts of rape against him. Gunathilaka, 31, was denied bail and was being held via video link at Parramatta Bail Court until his appearance on Sunday, according to the Daily Mail, until which time he will remain there.

Local police said of the cricket star’s arrest: ‘The woman met the man after communicating with him for several days via an online dating app; He is then said to have sexually abused her on the night of November 2nd. After further investigation, a 31-year-old man was arrested just before 1 am at a hotel on Sussex Street in Sydney today.”

“He was taken to Sydney City Police Station and charged with four counts of sex without consent. The Sri Lankan national was denied bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court via AVL today.”

The woman has done everything in her power to ensure her safety, including going public with Gunathilaka, said Jayne Doherty, director of the sex crimes unit.

The left-hander, who missed Sri Lanka’s unsuccessful World Cup campaign three weeks earlier through injury, has apparently found time to browse dating apps.

Sri Lanka Cricket has been informed by the International Cricket Council that player Danushka Gunathilaka has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman in Sydney. Mr. Gunathilaka is due to appear in court tomorrow, according to a Sri Lanka Cricket statement (7th November).

“SLC will closely monitor the court proceedings and, in consultation with the ICC, will promptly launch a full investigation into the matter and, if found guilty, will take firm action against the player.”
