Sri Lanka Postpones the Asia Cup 2021 on Account of Increase in Corona Cases

The Asia Cup 2021 has been postponed due to the increase in coronavirus cases, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board announced on Wednesday.

According to the details, the Asian Cup 2021 should take place in June.

However, Ashley de Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, said it will be difficult to organize the tournament due to the coronavirus pandemic. “Due to the current situation, it will not be possible to play the tournament in June this year,” said De Silva.

PCB had previously confirmed that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Asia Cup 2021 had been postponed to 2022.

PCB President Ehsan Mani briefed the BoG on matters related to the International Cricket Council, as well as this year’s ICC T20 World Cup and ACC Asia Cup, which have now been postponed to 2022.” Read a statement from the PCB. However, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board said nothing about the tournament.

It is worth mentioning here that the Asian Cup has been postponed for the second time. Previously, the tournament was postponed due to the coronavirus in 2020, so ACC decided to host it in June 2021.
