Social Media Sites Are Still Locked As A PTA And We Haven’t Received Any Unlock Instructions Yet

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has restored mobile internet services in most parts of the country (apart from a few hotspots), but social media platforms such as Twitter and YouTube remain inaccessible to Pakistani users.

The news comes from a PTA spokesman who told news media officials that some social media platforms are still banned but users should be able to access WhatsApp.

According to the spokesman, the PTA has not yet received any instructions from the Home Office to restore the social media platforms.

In some sensitive areas of the country, mobile internet is still completely blocked, they added.

The apps were blocked on orders from the Home Office shortly after former Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested.

Mobile internet services were completely blocked after the arrest, while most fixed broadband internet services continued to operate, with the exception of social media platforms.

The PTA official added that a decision to lift the ban would be made soon, in line with federal government guidance.

Regarding the possible shutdown of data services in the near future, the PTA said it had not received any internet shutdown instructions as of Monday.
