Breaking News: SNGPL Pushes for 137% Rise in Gas Prices Amidst Economic Shifts

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has submitted a request to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), urging a substantial 137 percent rise in gas charges for consumers.

This appeal from SNGPL is centered on a review of its anticipated revenue requirements and prescribed prices for the ongoing fiscal year, FY24.

The petitioner has highlighted a projected deficit in revenue requirements for FY24 amounting to Rs. 179,160 million. This includes Rs. 697 million earmarked for the LPG Air-mix project for FY24. The proposal advocates for an upswing in the average prescribed price by Rs. 506.35 per MMBTU, slated to take effect from July 1, 2023.

In addition to this, SNGPL has incorporated Rs. 427,830 million to offset the shortfall from the previous fiscal year. Consequently, the total average prescribed price is sought to be increased to Rs. 2,971.98 per MMBTU, starting from July 1, 2023. This adjustment is intended to compensate for the escalating costs of gas/RLNG and other components outlined in the petition.

A public hearing on this matter is scheduled to be conducted by the regulator on December 11.
