Dr. Sania Nishtar, a former Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on poverty alleviation, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Gavi focuses on improving vaccine access for children in impoverished nations.

Dr. Nishtar, a qualified medical doctor and current senator, will assume her role on March 18, 2024, bringing over 30 years of experience in the health sector.
She has a history with Gavi, having chaired Gavi’s Evaluation Advisory Committee and served as an independent member of Gavi’s Board. Dr. Nishtar’s leadership and commitment to health equity were praised by Professor José Manuel Barroso, Chair of the Gavi Board.
Her appointment received congratulations from various entities, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Director-General of the World Health Organization.
