Qatar Secures The Rights To Host The 2027 Men’s Basketball World Cup
Qatar has been selected to host the 2027 Men’s World Basketball Championship, marking the first time the country has hosted the prestigious event.
Qatar has become famous as the host of major global sporting events, most recently the country hosted the FIFA Men’s World Cup in November/December last year. The decision to award the 2027 FIBA World Cup to Qatar speaks to the country’s growing reputation as a hub for major sporting events.
The announcement was made by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), which selected Qatar to host the tournament after a successful bid. With this, Qatar is ready to host the event for the first time. It has been reported that the games will be played at existing basketball stadiums in the capital, Doha.
The women’s version of the tournament will be held in Germany in 2026, further underscoring the sport’s global reach and popularity.
Also note that the 2023 Men’s World Basketball Championship will be held in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan from August 25th to September 10th. However, Qatar failed to secure a place among the 32 teams taking part in this year’s tournament.
