Pakistan Braces For A Severe Cold Snap This Week

A severe cold snap will hit Pakistan this week, with the mercury expected to drop to -15C, Pak Weather, Pakistan’s largest network of automated weather stations, predicted.

According to the information, the cold wave begins on January 10th and lasts until January 14th. During this time, heavy snowfall is expected in the mountain regions.

Snow is expected in the upper reaches of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan as well as Gilgit Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK). Additionally, Murree will also receive Snowfall.

During this period, the temperature is expected to fall close to freezing in the northwestern and western parts of Sindh and below freezing in the northwestern and northern parts of Punjab.

Temperatures as low as -10 °C could be experienced in the northwest, western, and central parts of Baluchistan, and the same is expected in the upper parts of the KP. Temperatures could drop to -15C in the UK and -12C in AJK.

Speaking to News media, Owais Hyder, weather analyst and CEO of Pak Weather said record-breaking winter season events are expected in the coming days.

A weak polar vortex causes the Siberian winds to hit this region with all their intensity and causes a cold snap in the country. A strong polar vortex is preventing strong Siberian winds from reaching this region, Owais added.
