OpenAI CEO Praises UAE For Talking About AI Before it Was Cool

Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Governor of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the United Arab Emirates, met with Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT.

They discussed ways to strengthen partnerships between the UAE government and OpenAI for AI-based solutions.

Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed reiterated the government’s interest in strengthening partnerships with global tech companies and supporting tech entrepreneurs.

The UAE government aims to create an environment where tech talent, creatives and startups can thrive and develop solutions for a brighter future.

The meeting was attended by Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Working Applications, Helal Saeed Al Marri, Executive Director of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism Dubai and Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Managing Director of Digital Dubai.

During his visit to Abu Dhabi, Altman spoke at an open forum at Hub71, where he commended the emirate and the UAE for the early adoption of the technology.

He expressed his hope that the region can play a central role in the global discussion on the development of secure AI. He also recognized the UAE’s longstanding commitment to AI, even before it became fashionable.
