New Mega-Project To Reduce Travel Time By 80% in Dubai

In a major development for travelers in Dubai, travel time between Deira and Bur Dubai will be reduced by 80% by 2030.

The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, when completed, will significantly reduce travel time between the two areas from 104 minutes to 16 minutes.

RTA has awarded an AED 800 million contract for Phase 4 of this corridor. The project will also benefit more than a million residents by saving AED45 billion over the next two decades.

RTA chief executive and chairman Mattar Al Tayer said the project is one of the largest and will be built at a cost of around AED 5.3 billion.

According to GD, 15 crossings will be developed with an extension of 13 km and as it is a mega project it will be built in five phases. When completed, it will not only benefit Deira and Bur Dubai but also Deira Islands, Dubai Waterfront, Dubai Sea City, and Port Rashid.

Phase 4 Of The Project

Phase 4 involves the construction of three bridges, each 3.1 km long and capable of 19,400 vehicles per hour. The first bridge is a 1.33 km three-lane highway connecting Sheikh Rashid Road and the Falcon Intersection with a capacity of 10,800 vehicles per hour in both directions.

The second bridge is a 780-meter three-lane highway serving inbound traffic from the Falcon Interchange to Al Wasl Road with a capacity of 5,400 vehicles per hour.

The third bridge is a 985-meter dual carriageway that will accommodate inbound traffic from Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Road to the Falcon Interchange with a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour.
