Met Office Forecast Rain And Snowfall in Pakistan

A westerly wave is likely to enter northern Balochistan on 10th Jan. and likely sweep the upper parts on 11th Jan., bringing rain and snowfall Wednesday through Friday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast.

Under the influence of this weather system, rain/snow (isolated heavy falls) is expected in Quetta, Zhob, Barkhan, Ziarat, Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Harnai, Qilla Saifullah, Qilla Abdullah, Chaman, Muslim Bagh and Pishin on the 10th and 11th.ab January.

Rain (moderate to isolated heavy snowfall) is expected in Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur), Gilgit Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Mansehra and Abbottabad from January 11th to 13th.

Moderate rain is also expected in Islamabad, Pothohar Region, Charsadda, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Bannu, Karak, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Bhakkar, Layyah, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Sahiwal, Okara and Lahore on January 11-13. On January 11-12, light rains may occur along the coast of Makran, D.I Khan, D.G. Khan, Muzaffargarh, Multan, Khanewal, and Pakpattan.

Heavy snowfall may cause disruption and road closures in Murree, Galiyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli from 11th to 13th January.

The possibility of landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan cannot be ruled out. Tourists are advised to be very careful during this time.

The rain will benefit standing crops, particularly in parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Foggy conditions are expected to decrease during the forecast period. Temperatures are likely to drop significantly during and after the period.

All relevant authorities are advised to stay “ALARM” to avoid unfavorable situations during the forecast period.
