Lisa Rose Halcrow, who was jailed in south Queensland for the death of a two-year-old boy, was portrayed in court as an “unscrupulous, complicit liar”.
Halcrow was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of boy Connor Horan.

Connor Horan was in the care of nanny Lisa Rose Halcrow when he was taken to Warwick Base Hospital at 11:30 am and pronounced dead. m. from 19.08. Connor stayed at the babysitter’s residence on East Street from Friday 17 August 2018 to the following Sunday.
The boy suffered multiple heads and internal injuries after police were told he fell down a small flight of stairs. Detectives from the Child Trauma Unit and the Darling Downs District Crime Squad conducted a post-mortem investigation and autopsy.

The Toowoomba High Court heard Halcrow was holding Connor in Warwick in August 2018 when he grabbed his jaw and hit him so hard in the back of the head that he fell down the stairs. The court heard that Halcrow was suffering from the side effects of alcohol, methylamphetamine, and cannabis as he became annoyed with Connor’s behavior.
Forensic examinations revealed that Connor had suffered blunt force trauma to the head and bleeding to the intestines and pancreas. Prosecutor Philip McCarthy told the court that Halcrow waited 20 minutes and changed before taking Connor to the hospital.
The court heard Connor was dead when he arrived at Warwick Hospital, but doctors and nurses tried for an hour to revive him. Detectives then found Halcrow’s clothing with Connor’s blood on it and a rag used to clean blood from the two-year-old’s ears.

Judge Boddice sentenced Halcrow to 10 years in prison and found her a violent criminal, meaning she would have to serve at least eight years before she could be paroled.
As Halcrow was led off the dock, her family members shouted, “We love you Lisa” and “See you soon.” Another charge of aggravated assault against Halcrow was remanded to Toowoomba District Court.
