Reverse wireless charging is nothing new. It allows you to charge accessories by simply placing them on the back of your phone, but Apple may literally change that in the future.

A recently discovered Apple patent shows that the company is working on a new technology that will allow iPhones and iPads to charge accessories through their displays. The patent appeared on the US Patent and Trademark Office portal and describes the new reverse wireless charging method in detail.

As per the patent, this function is powered by a double-sided wireless charging kit that can reverse charging from the front and back. This group of charges is covered on all sides with metal armor.

Part of the screen can even be used when charging an accessory through the screen, making it a better app than normal reverse wireless charging. It is not known whether the display loading area has a display output while it is loading.

It’s used to power accessories like AirPods, Apple Watch, Apple Pencil, etc. Whether it also supports third-party accessories remains to be seen.

But as always this is only a patent and may never see the light of day, so take this information with a grain of salt.
