Federal Minister Announced The Final Decision on Reopening of Schools And Colleges

Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood announced on Tuesday that all educational institutions in the country would start working on Thursday.

Speaking to Twitter, the Minister of Education said: “I am pleased to announce that all educational institutions will open as of September 16.”

Punjab Education Minister Dr. Murad Raas supported his statement.

“All public and private schools in Punjab will open on Thursday September 16, 2021 with a gradual approach. Only 50% of students enter schools on any given day. Follow government-issued COVID-19 standard operating procedures. Welcome back,” the minister said in a tweet.

Schools in Punjab and Islamabad were closed for a week on 6th September due to an alarming increase in COVID-19 cases.

The reopening of educational institutions was originally planned as of 11th September, but the date has been extended due to the pandemic situation in the country.

However, a slight decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases has encouraged the federal government to reopen schools with a 50% attendance policy.

In the past 24 hours, Pakistan has reported 2,580 coronavirus cases with a positivity rate of 5.44%, marking the second day in a row with fewer than 3,000 cases in about two months.
