Who is Esther Crawford? Biography, Wiki

The Twitter executive Esther Crawford, who can be seen in a viral photo sleeping on the headquarters floor while Elon Musk enforced his “extremely tough” work culture, has been reportedly fired.

Esther Crawford, a remnant of the previous regime believed to have earned Musk’s trust and worked his way into the reclusive tycoon’s inner circle, was fired over the weekend.

Sources say Crawford and several other product managers have been fired after being denied access to their company’s systems over the weekend.

Twitter Executive Fired From Job

Crawford took to social media on Sunday night to respond to a spate of criticism from Twitter users that she had been fired from her new job despite her dedication.

“The worst thing you can get when you see me going all in on Twitter 2.0 is that my optimism or hard work was a mistake,” Crawford tweeted.

“Those who scoff and scoff are necessarily on the sidelines and not in the arena,” he said, referring to a famous Theodore Roosevelt quote.

“I am deeply proud of the team that has been built through so much noise and chaos.”

Several Twitter users accused Crawford of being “sycophantic,” while others berated him, saying it was “a real shock that sleeping in the office isn’t enough.”

Crawford, who oversees Twitter’s subscription service Blue, stood out because she was one of Musk’s few trusted lieutenants who wasn’t from one of his other companies: Tesla, SpaceX, or The Boring Company.

Crawford was among dozens of engineers, product managers, data scientists and team leaders fired by the tech-centric news site. At least 200 employees were reportedly laid off in the latest round of layoffs.

Martijn de Kuijper, a senior product manager based in the Netherlands, tweeted that he too found out about his layoff when he couldn’t log into his company’s IT system.

“I woke up and found my email was blocked. Looks like they let me go,” tweeted de Kuijper, who founded the newsletter platform Revue, which was later acquired by Twitter.

“Now my revue journey is really over.”

Twitter closed Revue in January.

Esther Crawford Slept in Office

The recent job cuts at Twitter seem to indicate that Musk is struggling to meet his goal of breaking even. Since acquiring the San Francisco-based microblogging site last fall, Musk has downsized at least eight times.

Twitter employed about 7,500 people before Musk bought the company. By Monday, that number had fallen to about 2,000, a 73% reduction.

Musk’s social media company, which he bought for $44 billion last year, must make a $1.2 billion annual interest payment under the terms of the mogul’s highly leveraged takeover.

In November, Musk said the service experienced a “massive drop in revenue” as advertisers cut spending over content moderation concerns.

Twitter recently started sharing ad revenue with some of its content creators.
