Dean Stockwell, the Oscar-nominated actor whose film and television career spanned more than 70 years, has died at the age of 85.

Stockwell, best known for his roles in “Quantum Leap” and “Married to the Mob,” died of natural causes on Saturday, as per the family spokesman.

His film career began in 1945. He appeared in three films that year, including the film “Anchors Aweigh” directed by Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly.

Two years later he appeared in Gentleman’s Agreement, an Oscar-winning film with Gregory Peck.

He was nominated for an Oscar for his supporting role in “Married to the Mob.”

Stockwell also appeared regularly on television for decades. In particular, he played the 1989 side of Scott Bakula in the science fiction television series “Quantum Leap.”

As a recurring character on “Battlestar Galactica” on television, Stockwell had other sci-fi hits.

His other acting roles include “Compulsion” from 1959 with Orson Welles, “Sons and Lovers” from the 1960s, the classic “Long Day’s Journey into Night”, “Dune” from 1984, and “Blue Velvet”.
