An Uber driver is said to have been shot dead after refusing to take a customer elsewhere. Driver Daniel Teheri dropped off two men and two women at a Shell gas station on Quitman Street in Texas just after 10 p.m. Sunday when one of the passengers asked for a ride to an alternative address.
Then they ordered him to get out of the car and leave his keys and cell phone there. Gunshots were heard as Mr. Teheri said he would not get out of the car.
The taxi driver’s sister, Ensi Teheri, claimed that had he not moved at the last second, the bullet would have penetrated his vital organs.
She told ABC13: “They didn’t find a bullet in it. I think she came out from the side. I think she probably went in the car seat. The four passengers fled leaving the Uber driver’s car at the gas station Her sister required hospital treatment for Mr. Teheri’s injuries as she had a deep gunshot wound that required stitches, stitches, fluids, and a blood transfusion. Ensi said he encouraged her to find another job while her brother recovers at home.”
What Was The Uber’s Statement?
Uber issued a statement saying they were working with authorities to locate the passenger.
He said: “There is no place for violence on the Uber platform and what this driver has been through is truly unbearable. We are working to contact the driver to check on their well-being and to offer our support and we have blocked the driver’s account from the platform.”
We are ready to support the police in any way we can. Uber has confirmed that Ride Check is enabled, which checks drivers and passengers during long unexpected stops.
