Boruch Taub and Benjamin Chafetz died in a light plane crash outside of New York on Thursday evening.
Authorities identified Chafetz, 45, and Taub, of Ohio, as occupants of a single-engine Beechcraft A36 that crashed near Westchester County Airport, reports ABC 7 New York.
Federal Aviation Administration air traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft around 5:30 p.m. Shortly before nightfall, the ship’s pilot reported engine failure.

The plane’s disappearance prompted an intense search and rescue effort in Westchester.
Rain and storms hampered efforts, but the vehicle ended up in a heavily forested, 162-acre area called Loudon Point Woods near Rye Lake, authorities said.
“The FBI was called in to help ping the cellphones, which then identified the location and expedited confirmation that there had been an accident and confirmed that two people had lost their lives,” the county’s district director said on Friday.
Chafetz and Taub, who flew to Ohio from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport, are members of Cleveland’s Orthodox Jewish community, Latimer added.
“Mr. Taub and Mr. Chafetz are gone,” the county official continued.
“They are leaving a hole in the table of their homes. They are leaving a hole in the life of their faith communities. It is the global story of today.”
The bodies of the two men were quickly removed from the scene and returned to their families for burial at sunset in Ohio on Friday, in accordance with Jewish tradition of burying the deceased within a day of death, ABC 7 reports.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash, and the NTSB will provide updates on the investigation, authorities said Thursday.
