Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos to Become Blue Origin’s first space passenger the next month with his brother.

In an Instagram post on Monday morning, Bezos said he, his brother, and the winner of an ongoing auction would be aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft when it launched on July 20.

July 20th marks the anniversary of Apollo 11’s moon landing. The journey will be a short jump into space from Texas.

Bezos said in early February that he would step down as CEO of Amazon to focus more on Blue Origin, among other things.

“Seeing the earth from space changes you, it changes your relationship with this planet. It’s earth,” said Bezos in the Instagram post.

“I want to take this flight because it’s something I’ve wanted to do all my life. It’s an adventure. It’s a big deal to me.”

The auction for a vacant seat in New Shepard ends on Saturday. The award is currently $2.8 million with nearly 6,000 applicants from 143 countries.

The winning auction amount will be donated to the Blue Origin Foundation Club for the Future, whose mission is to inspire future generations to pursue careers in STEM and invent the future of life.
