Amanda Calo and her husband, an off-duty Illinois state police officer, who was found dead Monday in a parked car in Chicago’s South End, have been confirmed to be a murder-suicide.
Calo’s family said she was leaving her husband Antonio Álvarez, 30, at the time of her death.

Chicago police said around 1:40 p.m. On Monday, a witness struck a car at the 11,000 block of South Avenue E and discovered the bodies of Soldiers Alvarez and Alvarez-Calo inside.
The couple was pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds to the head, state police said. The car they were in was not on display by the department.
Alvarez-Calo’s death has since been ruled a homicide, while Alvarez’s gunshot wound was considered self-inflicted, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
A firearm was recovered from the scene, Chicago police said.
The agency said Antonio Alvarez is a three-year veteran with the Illinois State Police. DailyMail.com has reached out to state police for comment.
Amanda Alvarez was a teacher at Matthew Gallistel Learning Academy. Her family told ABC7 that she and her husband had marital problems and were separated.
Before her death, Amanda reportedly told her relatives that she planned to leave Antonio.
Family
A local councilwoman, Susan Sadlowski-Garza, was Alvarez-Calo’s godmother and said her two sons had been close friends of Alvarez-Calo since third grade.
“She was the most amazing young woman,” Sadlowski-Garza said. “His laughter was contagious.”
“He helped steer kids down the wrong path,” Sadlowski-Garza added, noting that Álvarez-Calo was active in her community, working in after-school programs, community gardens, and the violence prevention group Safe Kids Chicago. “Everyone loved Amanda.”
Kimberly Nelson, director of the Matthew Gallistel Learning Academy, released a statement after his death.
“Our thoughts are with Ms. Alvarez’s family at this difficult time,” Nelson said.
“We are deeply saddened by this loss and will do everything we can to support you and your child during this extremely difficult time.”

Police Investigation Report
Meanwhile, Chicago police have not said they are looking for suspects linked to the killings.
Friends revealed that Alvarez-Calo and Alvarez left behind two young children, a 4-year-old son, and a 1-year-old daughter.
A GoFundMe page created for Alvarez-Calo Tuesday afternoon had raised more than $82,000 by Wednesday night.
