Players in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are reportedly making up to US$20,000 (AED 73,462 and Rs 4,851,096) per month through sponsorships, live streaming, and social media promotion.

Since the pandemic, players have started to generate significant revenue. Even small game streamers make anywhere from $50 to $1,000 a month on Twitch, which is more than traditional jobs.

Speaking to Gulf News, Bashar said he never continued his civil engineering career and has remained a full-time player since 2020, his senior year.

Regarding the popularity of gambling in the Middle East and Saudi Arabia, the governor of the Saudi Arabian Information and Communications Technology Commission, Mohammed Saud Al-Tamimi, said that about 89% of the Saudi population are gamblers.

The contribution of the gaming sector to the UK’s gross domestic product (GDP) is set to increase fifty-fold by 2030.

Regarding the UAE, Manish Bakshi said that the Emirates had started to see the true potential of the local gambling industry and therefore started investing. One such example is Geekay, a Dubai-based gaming events and accessories platform, he added.

In addition, the Dubai Internet City Free Zone previously announced that it will develop domestic game studios as part of a $100 million funding initiative.
