The instant messaging space is largely dominated by a few select options, with WhatsApp taking center stage due to its huge popularity in regions like India and other parts of Asia. Because of its great momentum, every small change and addition of features to WhatsApp creates a huge ripple that affects billions of users.
WhatsApp’s voicemail/voice memo feature was one such addition that became popular with viewers who sometimes preferred to just put an audio note instead of text.
If you’ve received a lot of voice memos on WhatsApp, you can quickly play them back using the instant messaging app with fast playback speed options.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is finally introducing the ability to listen to voice messages for beta users on Android at different playback speeds.
The feature was already in development about a month ago, and the rollout for beta users is a bit of a surprise as the pace of feature development and adoption in WhatsApp is very slow compared to Telegram and others. But better late than never, WhatsApp Beta 2.21.9.4 users will now see a 1x / 1.5x / 2x button on voice messages.

Tapping the button changes the speed to the next option. This should be very useful when you need a summary and just want to flip through the voice memo, or when a group is sending unwanted voice messages and you just want to check if something important has been missed.
The playback speed options should be available shortly after the voice memo feature started, but at least it comes now. If you are part of the beta group, please note that the function will only be activated on the server-side for some users and not for the entire beta group.
We hope WhatsApp fixes some of its easily exploitable security holes as well.
